Determining the efficacy of Red Cell® in combination with anthelmintics against gastrointestinal nematode parasitism in sheep and goats

Small ruminants are highly susceptible to infection with gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN), particularly Haemonchus contortus, a blood-feeder that can cause severe anemia and death losses in untreated animals. Anecdotal evidence has suggested short-term treatment of heavily infected animals Red Cell®, vitamin mineral supplement, combination anthelmintic drugs may reduce morbidity mortality. The objective this study was determine the effect Cell® on GIN small ruminants. Four experiments were conducted comprised two-week trial using mixed-sex naturally parasitized hair sheep lambs or intact male Spanish goat kids housed pasture. treatments consisted 30 mL without albendazole (Exp. 1, lambs), levamisole 2, Exp. 3, goats), moxidectin 4, alone, water only (control). Fecal blood samples collected from individual Day 0, 7, 14. egg counts packed cell volume analyses conducted. Overall, though did influence FEC PCV, there no treatment.
